Trailer hitches are broken down into categories based on their weight capabilities. These categories are class 1 through 5. A trailer hitch rating increases as the class number increases. For instance a class 1 trailer hitch is rated below a class 2 trailer hitch in weight carrying ability. It is important to remember that even though your trailer hitch may be rated at a certain weight, your vehicle may be rated far below the trailer hitch rating. It is always recommended that you stay within the towing capabilities specified in your vehicle owners manual. A class 1 and class 2 trailer hitch are primarily your light duty hitches. These trailer hitches most often have a 1 1/4" receiver opening and are designed for most compact and full size passenger cars. Their ratings vary by application and are sometimes quite different than what is pictured above.
The class 2.5 Brute series trailer hitch is a very popular hitch. This trailer hitch is perfect for your smaller trucks, suv's, vans and some passenger cars. They are a great intermediary between the class 2 and the class 3 trailer hitch. These trailer hitches come standard with a 2" receiver opening.
The class 3 trailer hitch is the most often purchased class trailer hitch from our website. They are capable of meeting the demands of most consumers. This trailer hitch will fit some passenger cars, SUV's and most pick up trucks.
A class 4 trailer hitch is just for larger towing needs and do not fit most passenger vehicles. They are primarily for trucks, full size vans and SUV's. Most full size pick up truck owners opt for these trailer hitches for common towing needs.
The class 5 Magnum series trailer hitch is the meatiest trailer hitch that we sell. This hitch is designed for serious towing needs and is among the highest rated trailer hitches we sell.
