distribution hitch is a hitch system, which
includes supplemental equipment such as spring
bars that work to distribute trailer tongue
loads to the trailer axle(s) and the tow vehicle
front axle.

It also increases trailer towing capacity beyond
what is recommended when a weight-carrying hitch
is used. Some semi trailers have movable wheel
axles that can be adjusted by moving them on a
track underneath the trailer body and securing
them in place with large pins. The purpose of
this is to help adjust weight distribution over
the various axles, to comply with local laws.
