These categories are class 1 through 5. A trailer hitch rating increases as the class number increases. For instance a class 1 trailer hitch is rated below a class 2 trailer hitch
in weight carrying ability. It is important to remember that even though your trailer hitch may be rated at a certain weight, your vehicle may be rated far below the trailer hitch rating. It is always recommended that you stay within the towing capabilities specified in your vehicle owners manual.

Class 1 and class 2 trailer hitches by Curt are primarily your light duty hitches. These trailer hitches most often have a 1 1/4" receiver opening and are designed for most compact and full size passenger cars. Their ratings vary by application and are sometimes quite different than what is pictured above. |
