The first item to select is a trailer hitch to fit your vehicle and your towing needs. Trailer hitches come in class 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 and class 5 ratings. Not all classes are available for all vehicles but the higher the rating the more you can tow. Just remember not to exceed your vehicles capabilities. Class 1&2 trailer hitches have a 1 1/4" receiver hitch opening while all others have a 2" receiver hitch opening. Next, match up a hitch mount to your trailer hitch. These hitch mounts come in a variety of drop/rise configurations. Generally speaking a 2" drop is the most common for class 2.5 and above hitches. You may find that a lower drop may be needed depending on your vehicles suspension and trailer height. NOTE: If you purchased a class 1 or 2 hitch this part is already included with the hitch. Select a hitch ball size that matches the size of the coupler on your trailer. Match the hole size of your hitch mount (see left) to the shank diameter of your hitch ball. If you tow a variety of trailers we recommend the switch ball system. This allows you to attach one shank to your hitch mount with the ability to change ball sizes quickly and easily. This item secures the hitch mount to your trailer hitch. NOTE: If you purchased a class 1 or 2 hitch this part is already included with the hitch.
